Preschool Program

Woodend Children’s Centre will begin welcoming 3-year-old kindergarten children in 2030.

The preschool day incorporates a rhythm of uninterrupted play, educator led small group sessions and larger group times to develop a sense of belonging which includes our transitions of sunscreen, handwashing and lunch box snacks. We repeat this rhythm 3 times a day, providing lots of time for eating and learning through play. Teachers engage children in a variety of games, songs, music and dance experiences to develop literacy and numeracy skills throughout the day. Children also learn how to care for our land as environmental citizens, sustainable practices and build connections to nature.

Preschool Sessions

Upon enrolment children are allocated to a group and are eligible for 4 terms of preschool in the year prior to starting school.

Preschool term holidays are in line with the SA school calendar Term dates for South Australian state schools.

Session Times

Session times are 8:30-4:00pm with children attending 2 full days per week (15hours).

  • Kookaburra Group:
    Monday and Tuesday
  • Koala Group:
    Wednesday and Thursday

**please note the site is open ODD weeks for admin and closed EVEN weeks.

**As per DfE policy 4 x student free days will be allocated & notified at the beginning of Term 1 each year.

 

Enrolment Information

On enrolment children are allocated into a group and will attend 4 terms of preschool prior to starting school.

Eligible intake is determined by date of birth.

Preschools and Schools now offer both term 1 and term 3 intakes according to dates of birth.

Children who turn 4 Start preschool Start school
On or before 30 April Term 1 Term 1
Between 1 May and 31 October Term 3 Term 3
On or after 1 November Term 1 (the following year) Term 1
